Although the pulsating spirit of Marrakech is the old city, it has a modern spirit and is equipped with all the facilities that make it the city of the 21st century. The name Glees is compared to the Glees rocks, which are located near the plains between those dark rocks. During the French occupation of 1912, the French authorities noted the importance of the extraordinary strategic location of this rock from the military point of view, and created a castle with a camp near it. In 1913, a European center was established near Marrakesh. For security reasons, Géléz was chosen because of its strategic importance in the intersection of Casablanca, the ports of the south and the region of Souss.

The narratives tell of the strong relations between the Marrakesh with their plant heritage and the great attention they paid to their trees and plants, where it was completely forbidden to extract palm trees. In the event of this, the perpetrator planted three trees to compensate for his sins. By order of General Looti, large, straight and wide roads were built where cultural architectural facilities were respected by economizing on three-storey buildings, then preserving a panorama of nature landscapes and unifying the identity of the new and old city by making them the red city. Today, Glees is considered to be an important cultural and administrative center for the city of Marrakech because it includes most of the cultural institutions such as the Conference Palace, the Royal Theater and some cultural institutions. It is also a center for relaxation areas such as cafés with its spacious balconies and various shops.
